Rebecca Schwarzmeier’s photographs explore the cultural and political implications of modern infrastructure. In her latest project »Autobahninsel«, she focuses on the German Autobahn and its interstitial spaces. The work is a nuanced contribution to the debate on the transformation of public spaces and their social significance.
The artist book we designed combines photography with texts by Anna Hofmann, Christoph Schaden, Chiara Seidl and Florian Werner, offering an interdisciplinary approach that situates the work within artistic, urban sociological and cultural contexts. The design is driven by full-bleed photographs on coated paper and contrasted by a text section on an uncoated paper set in geometric fonts, nodding to classic traffic sign typography. For the first publication of the work, ahead of the book, we also designed a screen-printed cardboard folder containing 23 photographs and a text leaflet, which was released to accompany the artist’s diploma exhibition at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg.
